Jan 19, 2023: A second accident involving a Jefferson County School bus occurred this morning on Summit Point Road and Lloyd Road. Bus 33 was carrying students at the time. There are no injuries, but in an abundance of caution, everyone involved is being evaluated at the scene.

The faculty senate meeting canceled due to inclement weather in Dec. will take place on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023. Students in all Jefferson County Schools will DISMISS TWO HOURS EARLY that afternoon to accommodate the rescheduled meetings. We recognize the importance of these legally required meetings to give faculty senates time to meet and discuss important issues. JCS is excited to partner with WVU Medicine and Blue Ridge Community and Technical College on the new MedEd program for high school juniors and seniors! Beginning in Fall 2023, this FREE two-year program will offer students from Jefferson and Washington High Schools a direct career path into the healthcare industry, including a paid internship for second-year students. Congratulations to JCS FFA students on their strong showing in the West Virginia State FFA Winter Career Developments competition at West Virginia University! Participating chapters included Charles Town Middle (CTMS), Harpers Ferry Middle (HFMS), Shepherdstown Middle (SMS), Jefferson High School (JHS), and Washington High School (WHS). Several teams received top placements in the competition, with JHS FFA's Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems Team claiming its second consecutive state title to represent West Virginia at the national contest in October! Jefferson County Schools puts the safety of our students at the forefront of all we do. Our staff receives training on numerous protocols and practices to ensure student safety in our schools. An employee at Jefferson High School used that training on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, when they reported another employee for allegedly making inappropriate comments to a student in an aggressive manner. Following our safety protocol, the employee was immediately removed, and we contacted law enforcement to initiate an investigation. The families of impacted students have been notified. Any inappropriate behavior verified as part of the ongoing investigation will be shared with those involved as part of our partnership with our families in keeping kids safe.
JCS middle schoolers received a message of kindness and positivity as they headed into the winter break. Author and educator Jefferson J. Jones visited all four middle schools as part of a district-wide focus on anti-bullying and emotional intelligence development. Dec. 16, 2022: A Jefferson County School Bus was involved in an accident this morning on Summit Point Rd. and Lloyd Rd. There were no students on the bus and no injuries have been reported.
After consulting with state weather officials and the state department of highways, we have determined that in the interest of student and staff safety, all Jefferson County Schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022. We ask essential personnel to contact their supervisor for direction. We are grateful for your support as we work to keep students and staff safe.
EARLY DISMISSAL: Driswood Elementary School will dismiss students at 1:00 PM TODAY, Dec. 14, due to a water main break. Our partners at JUI will delay their repairs so students can eat lunch ahead of dismissal. This only impacts Driswood Elementary School students. We're pleased to bring holiday cheer to neurodiverse students and their families again this year with the second annual JCS Sensory Santa! This event gives sensory-sensitive children and their families a chance to visit Santa in a calmer, less-chaotic environment. The fun continues the weekend thanks to our student and staff volunteers!
