We're proud to recognize our JCS students chosen to participate in this year's West Virginia All-State Children's Chorus! Nine students from North Jefferson Elementary, Shepherdstown Elementary, and Wright Denny Intermediate were among 153 youth statewide selected to perform at the 2022 West Virginia Music Educators Conference in Charleston on March 4. JCS music students continued to win big this past weekend at the West Virginia Music Educators Conference in Charleston! Congratulations to Amelia Dardaris, Amelia Marino, Becky McGivern, Lydia Brown, Rhett Snyder, and Jacob Perkowski of Washington High School on their acceptance into the West Virginia All-State Band. And a big shoutout to Lydia Brown on her outstanding solo at the event's honor recital. You're all outstanding! Go Patriots!



Congratulations to Craig Lee of Wildwood Middle School on being named West Virginia's 2020-2021 Bandmaster of the Year by Phi Beta Mu Honorary Bandmaster Fraternity! Mr. Lee received the long-overdue award on March 6 following the All-State Band Concert at the West Virginia Music Educators Conference in Charleston. The ceremony was postponed last year due to the ongoing pandemic. Mr. Lee has positively impacted the lives of countless students throughout his 33-year career in education. Congrats on this well-deserved recognition!
Congrats to Jefferson High School's 2nd period Jazz Ensemble on their first-place win at the West Virginia State Jazz Festival! The group was designated High School Honor Jazz Ensemble by the West Virginia Bandmasters Association and performed at the West Virginia Music Educators Conference in Charleston last week. And in another big win, Jefferson High's 5th period Jazz Ensemble earned the second-place spot at the jazz festival! It's the first time in the event's history that the top two bands in the state came from the same school. Go Cougars!

The James Rumsey Technical Institute's Mobile Career Center has made its way to Wildwood Middle School! This community outreach program introduces 8th graders to different career paths offered through JRTI programs. Check out some of the options WMS students have discovered!




The Cat in the Hat, along with Thing 1 and Thing 2, joined DECA students from Washington High yesterday in celebrating Read Across America Day with Driswood Elementary students. Did you know that Read Across America is part of National Reading Month? Reading with children promotes a love of learning, develops an understanding of the diverse world around us, and cultivates empathy. And modeling reading in your home demonstrates that books can provide both information and enjoyment. So, grab a book and celebrate today - and every day!
Shoutout to five JCS students who advanced to the regional round of the West Virginia State Social Studies Fair! Hannah Hunter and Madison Tandski of Harpers Ferry Middle and Noelle Nicodemus, Jillian Dillow, and Joel Dillow of Shepherdstown Middle will represent Jefferson County Schools at the March 12 event at Mussleman High School. The state competition will take place on April 29 in Charleston. Congratulations!

JCS students (and teachers!) are having TOO much fun this "Twosday" celebrating 2.22.22! Students across the district wore tutus, ties, and tie-dye t-shirts to commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime date, and Driswood Elementary students took part in a "Twosday" food drive by donating two cans of food for the foodbank.
Thanks to the Jefferson High School FFA for helping us celebrate FFA Week! Hannah Goode, Emily Maurstiller, Abigail Stanley, and Maci Dunn provided snacks and drinks for the central office staff as part of the celebration!

Congratulations to the 16 vocal music students from Jefferson and Washington High Schools who were accepted into the West Virginia Music Educators 2022 All-State Chorus! These hardworking students will now travel to Charleston for a March 5 performance at the WVMEA Annual Conference featuring a musical piece commissioned just for the event. Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, is a faculty senate day for all Jefferson County Schools. Students will be dismissed two hours early to give the senate time to meet. We appreciate your support of our schools and staff.

This week (February 7-11) has been National School Counseling Week, a time to recognize and honor the crucial work performed by school guidance counselors. Shoutout to all JCS counselors for offering our students unconditional guidance, support, and stability all day, every day. We appreciate you!

Congratulations to JCS students Jonathan Gutzman and Amelia Mabry of Wright Denny Intermediate and Daniel Healy of C.W. Shipley Elementary, individual winners of the 4th grade Math Field Day competition! Wright Denny Intermediate, Shepherdstown Elementary, and South Jefferson Elementary earned first, second, and third place wins at the team level.
JCS Math Field Day is an opportunity to promote mathematical reasoning, teamwork, and a balanced mathematics curriculum for students at the upper elementary, middle, and high schools levels. Winners will now compete for a slice of the "pi" at the Regional Math Field Day competition at Potomac State College on March 14, aka "Pi" Day (Ď€ = 3.14).

Congratulations to JCS students Nicholas Bennett, of Harpers Ferry; Collin Guedel, of Shepherdstown; and Spencer Perkins, of Harpers Ferry, for earning their places as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program! Inclusion in the program is one of the highest honors a graduating high school senior can achieve, as individuals are selected on the criteria of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement community and school activities.
