Members of the JCS Special Education staff applauding at the annual convocation

As the school year came to a close, the JCS Special Education team gathered for their annual end-of-year convocation. The event served as a time to reflect on the year’s accomplishments, recognize outstanding staff members, and renew their shared commitment to students and families.

As part of the celebration, guest speaker Adam Peterson led a professional development session focused on helping educators reconnect with the “why” behind their work. The message served as an inspiring reminder of the impact special education staff make each day in the lives of students.

Several staff members were honored for their outstanding contributions, as nominated by their peers:

  • Outstanding Community Contributor Award: Mara Bauserman, owner of Corner Connections and Spotlight on Main

  • Elementary Special Educator of the Year: Jennifer Dixon, Ranson Elementary School

  • Secondary Special Educator of the Year: Stacel Butala, Charles Town Middle School

  • Special Education Service Person of the Year: Lauren Bowers, Charles Town Middle School

  • Inclusive Administrator of the Year: Nicole Reed, Charles Town Middle School

  • Special Education Rising Star: Deanna Dixon, Jefferson High School

  • Service Provider of the Year: Michelle Woolwine, Occupational Therapist

  • Champion for Special Education Award: Amy Vickers, Jefferson High School, and Kaitlyn Grantham, Washington High School

Congratulations to all the award recipients—and thank you to every member of the Special Education team for your dedication, compassion, and tireless support of JCS students.
