CHARLESTON, WV -- The West Virginia School Building Authority (SBA) voted to approve an additional $2,682,960 million for the new Shepherdstown Elementary School (SES). The SBA approved the funds to support the school system after bids for construction were over budget. JCS Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bishop said it is a welcome investment from the state.
"Coming into Jefferson County Schools, I was so impressed with the support this community has for their schools. This additional money will make it possible to honor the vision of our citizens and create a school where generations of kids will be able to learn."
The vote brings the total allocation from the SBA for the Shepherdstown project to $3,969,943. Jefferson County voters approved a bond call in the 2020 General Election. The bond included funding for new elementary schools in Shepherdstown and Ranson.
Construction on the new Ranson Elementary is underway. School officials anticipate construction at the Shepherdstown site should begin this fall.
