Logan's family members

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. – C.W. Shipley Elementary School (CWS) celebrated the life of former student Logan Kenney during the first-ever Logan’s Lego Fair on February 21. More than 100 students from all grade levels participated by bringing their own Lego creations to display in honor of Logan’s love for Legos. The event was part of a month-long fundraiser to collect money for the American Heart Association (AHA).

Monetary donations were accepted during the month of February in memory of Logan, who passed away from a heart condition last fall. Organizer Connie Reed-Davis was Logan’s third-grade teacher. She said donations have already exceeded $1,500, surpassing the original goal of $500. Reed-Davis said it is a testament to Logan and his passion for all things Lego.

“Logan’s love for Legos was out of this world,” she said.

Logan’s mother Pantera Wilkes agreed, adding that Legos were a highlight as the family navigated Logan’s health challenges.

“During his many hospital stays throughout his life, we spent countless hours building the different sets he received,” Wilkes said. “He even had an app where he kept track of how many sets he had, which was a lot.”

Reed-Davis said this is a great start to what she hopes will become part of an annual tradition.

“Our plans are to continue to do this each year. We would love to see it come back each year.”

February is American Heart Month with a focus on cardiovascular health. CWS will continue collecting monetary donations in Logan’s memory through the end of the month. Checks may be made payable to the American Heart Association and sent to C.W. Shipley Elementary School, 652 Shipley School Road, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425.
