Jefferson County Schools (JCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sybil Terry as the new principal of Ranson Elementary School. Now entering her 40th year in education, including 24 years in school administration, Ms. Terry comes to Ranson after leading Blue Ridge Elementary School, bringing a career-long commitment to fostering academic excellence, nurturing student growth, and supporting educators in creating engaging learning environments.
Ms. Terry earned a Master's degree in educational leadership from Charleston Southern University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University. Before joining JCS, she served for more than two decades as a school administrator, and she began her career in education as a speech therapist at the elementary level.
"I am thrilled and honored to join Ranson Elementary School," said Terry. "I am excited for this opportunity to serve a school community that embraces diversity, values every child, and holds a strong commitment to learning and growth."
Ms. Terry has already set an ambitious goal for her first year: a five percent increase in the school's overall scores.
"Is it doable? I absolutely believe it is," she said. "With our talented staff, dedicated students, supportive families, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement, anything is possible. Together, we can rise to the challenge and achieve great things."
On a personal note, Ms. Terry is the proud mother of two grown sons and the grandmother of four. When she is not at school, she can often be found spending time with her three Shih Tzus — Lucy, Bella, and Bailey — cooking for friends and family, entertaining, or planning her next travel adventure.
"Ms. Terry is an experienced leader who leads with high expectations and heart," said JCS Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bishop. "Ranson Elementary is gaining a principal with four decades of dedication to students, and I'm confident the school will thrive under her guidance."
