All-County Honor choir performing on stage

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- Middle school choral students across the district combined their voices for an ensemble performance at Jefferson County Schools' All-County Middle School Honor Choir. Approximately 85 students from Charles Town Middle School (CTMS), Harpers Ferry Middle School (HFMS), Shepherdstown Middle School (SMS), and Wildwood Middle School (WMS) participated in the February 16 event hosted by Washington High School (WHS) under the direction of Ken Cooper, WHS choir director.

All-County Honor Choir allows middle school choral students to participate in an Honor Choir ensemble that is larger in scale than their school choir. Participants also experience working with other like-minded students who share their interest in furthering their musical abilities.

During the day-long event, participants worked with Cooper on five pieces of music they had previously prepared with their middle school choirs under directors Lindsay Dove (CTMS), Haley O'Meara (HFMS), Kelly Bennett (SMS), and Molly Wildman (WMS). The students showcased their hard work with a community concert that included additional performances by the WHS Tenor/Bass and Chamber Choirs and Jefferson High School (JHS) Chamber Choirs.

Dove said she hopes the event, now in its second year, will continue to be an opportunity for JCS middle school students to cultivate their musical skills.

"We are very thankful to the county for helping provide this opportunity for our students and hope to continue it far into the future, learning ways to improve it every year!"
