The Eastern Panhandle Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated selected Tanya Dallas Lewis as their 2023 Educator Award recipient. Dallas Lewis partners with community & civic organizations that center youth and youth advocacy and serves as the Department of Cultural Unity & Equity/Staff Development and Title IX Coordinator for Jefferson County Schools (JCS).
Delta Sigma Theta said the award came in recognition of Dallas Lewis' inspirational presence in the community and her tireless and unselfish contributions to its youth. Dallas Lewis said she was honored to be recognized and was surprised when she received the call.
"My jaw dropped," she said in an online post. "Initially, I thought the call was to ask me who I would recommend to be considered for such an award. I was thinking of a few names of outstanding educators to recommend until I learned I had been selected!"
Dallas Lewis was formally recognized and received the award at the chapter’s Jazz Brunch and Silent Auction last month.
